THE TIME HAS COME!!
We are now taking orders for Spring 2024 planting!
Order early to reserve your rhizomes.
As in years past, rhizomes are $40/pound and will create a "fence" about 50' long.
The image above each rhizome was 24" apart and that grouping was 5 years old. This past season they were 12-15' tall and 3-4' across
Starting this season, Upstate Miscanthus Farm has new owners, Amanda and Craig along with their crew will provide the same great product and service as in the past!
For our 2023 season we had lots of new states we shipped to. Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Connecticut, all for the first time!
We shipped a lot thru New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania as we have in years past!

The grasses are so pretty swaying in the wind!
EACH RHIZOME WILL HAVE MULTIPLE GROWTH NODES AND AMPLE RESERVED ENERGY TO BEGIN GROWING AS SOON AS THE GROUND HAS WARMED UP.
MISCANTHUS X GIGANTUS IS A WARM-WEATHER GRASS.
THIS GRASS DOES IT'S ABSOLUTE BEST WHEN PLANTED IN THE SPRING ONCE THE GROUND HAS WARMED UP..
THIS TALL ORNAMENTAL GRASS IS NONINVASIVE. IT WILL GROW IN CIRCULAR CLUMPS REACHING UP TO 4 FEET ACROSS AND UP TO 15 FEET TALL UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS.
MISCANTHUS X GIGANTEUS IS AN INEXPENSIVE NATURAL ALTERNATIVE HEDGE SCREENING OR UNSIGHTLY FENCES. IN ADDITION IT REQUIRES NO PERMIT FROM MOST MUNICIPALITIES.
WHETHER YOU ARE USING IT FOR A HEDGE SCREEN, A FOCAL POINT, OR TO DECREASE STREET NOISE, MISCANTHUS PLAYS A WONDERFUL ROLE IN YOUR YARD AND LANDSCAPE.
IN THE WIND THE GRASSES PRODUCE A VERY RELAXING SOUND AND LOOK BEAUTIFUL AS THEY SWAY IN THE BREEZE.
THESE PLANTS OFFER YOU THE PRIVACY TO FIT YOUR NEEDS. ALL YEAR ROUND. MISCANTHUS OFFERS A BARRICADE FOR YOUR PRIVACY NEEDS, A BEAUTIFUL NATURAL GREEN WALL IN THE SUMMER MONTHS AND GOLDEN COLORED CANE DURING THE FALL AND WINTER. WHEN THE LEAVES FALL OFF DURING THE WINTER, THE CANE WILL STAND TALL THROUGH THE THE SNOWFALL TO PROVIDE YOU SOME SCREEN COVERAGE AND ORNAMENTAL FOCAL AREAS.
This gorgeous grass can grow up to 15' tall (after about the 3rd year) and can reach up to 4' across.
Miscanthus × giganteus, (the Giant Miscanthus) is a sterile hybrid of Miscanthus sinensis and Miscanthus sacchariflorus. Giant Miscanthus is a sterile plant therefore it does not produce seed. It can ONLY be propagated by planting rhizomes. Other Miscanthus species are invasive, and you should never plant those. Often, folks just hear the word Miscanthus and assume that Giant Miscanthus is as invasive as other Miscanthus species, but that’s not true.
It is a perennial grass with bamboo-like stems. This is a grass of monstrous proportions, forming very tall clumps of green leaves, their tips arching gracefully in layers. Useful as a living screen or hedge, bearing cream plumes in the fall. The corn-like stalks turn creamy tan in winter. Clumps are large but well-behaved and as we said noninvasive. Lower leaves tend to wither in late summer, so planting something tall in front is suggested but not necessary. Trim back to the ground in the late fall OR early spring -– power hedge trimmers do a quick job.
As an interesting side note, this plant is becoming widely planted as a source of biomass or biofuel.
Are you looking for a screen for your hunting plot?
Are you tired of not having a reliable screen?
Do you want to screen your tree stand?
Consider Miscanthus Giganteous....it has been said it's "The Wall That Doesn't Fall"
Under optimal conditions you can expect each rhizome to produce a plant with one to four stalks that are about 1 to 4 feet tall. As the plant begins to mature by the second year you will see grasses that have four to eight stalks that are 4 to 6 feet high. By the time the grasses have reached year three you will find the stalks are 10 to 15 feet tall and 3-4 feet across. They do their best in full sun locations.
The best means for a good privacy screen for hunting purposes can be accomplished by planting the rhizomes about 18 inches apart in rows that are 18 to 24 inches apart. To create a good solid screen, plant three to five rows of Miscanthus Giganteous
Remember, deer need to feel safe on your property...this grass will give your deer a place to hide.
This grass is also ideal for screening roads or entrance paths to stands and hunting blinds.
